Areej Chaudhary (Urdu: اریج چوہدری; born 7 May 1997) is a Pakistani actress and beauty queen. She is the winner of Miss Pakistan World 2020[1][2] and was sent to Miss Earth 2020[3] virtually to represent Pakistan, Miss Eco International and Miss Global International. She is also a psychologist by profession. She was the first girl from Pakistan who was directly chosen for beauty pageants from the soil of Pakistan.[4]

Early life

Areej Chaudhary was born on 7 May 1997 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.[5] Her family roots lie in Multan, Punjab and is a relative of actor-director Hamza Ali Abbasi.[6] She did her schooling education in Jeddah at Springhill International School before returning to Pakistan to complete her O Levels at Bloomfield Hall School. She then chose to study Psychology at Comsats University in Lahore. After completing her University, she started getting offers for some modelling jobs and started pursuing modelling.

Her father owns translation companies[7] in Dubai, UAE, and Qatar, named Mikdoss Translation & Langspark Translation. Areej, the youngest of the family, has two elder brothers, Shah Hassan Chaudhary, a cosmetologist in Islamabad, and Muhammad Hussain Chaudhary, who runs the family business of Translation Services. The family also has a restaurant business. Her mother is Kashmiri. She also has a sister, a designer, married in Multan, Pakistan. Areej resides with her family in Bani Gala, Islamabad.[8]

Beauty pageants

Areej Chaudhary's pageant work started when she applied for the Miss Pakistan World pageant in 2020.

Chaudhary won the title of Miss Pakistan World in 25 August,[9] 2020,[10][11] She was the first girl who got the crown from the soil of Pakistan,[12]

Areej Chaudhary,[13] crowned the Pakistan World and Shyraa Roy on 25 May 2021 became the first Miss Trans Pakistan. She later was invited to the Miss Pakistan[14] 2022 ceremony that took place in Lahore, Pakistan and crowned Miss & Mr. Pakistan Global. Chaudhary, made it to the top news of the year in 2022 in Pakistan's leading newspaper, Dawn.[15] In 2023,[16][17] she crowned Ms. Pakistan World 2023, Mrs. Pakistan World 2023 and the second Miss Trans Pakistan[18] 2023, Alina Khan.[19]

Chaudhary[20] also entered as the finalists in the world's third largest international beauty pageant[21] Miss Earth 2020[22] which took place virtually due to pandemic.[23] Even though Chaudhary did not place at the Miss Earth[24] competition, she was noted as the first girl to participate in an international pageant from the soil of Pakistan.

In the year 2022,[25] Areej Chaudhary[26][27] represented Pakistan in the Miss Eco International 2022 competition that is being held in Egypt. She is the third Pakistani[28] contestant to represent Pakistan[29] in the Miss Eco pageant.[30] Chaudhary did not place in the top 20 in the Miss Eco International pageant and the winner was from Philippines.

Areej took part in her fourth pageant and third international pageant in Miss Global[31] 2022 which took place at Bali Nusa Dua International Convention Center in Bali,[32] Indonesia. Chaudhary is still pursuing pageants from time to time, whenever her schedule allows her as representing Pakistan is her priority.

Acting career

Chaudhary's acting career[33] started after she was crowned Miss Pakistan World in 2020. Her first break was the drama Maahi.

Pakistan industry

Chaudhary joined the Pakistani drama industry while she was studying in Comsats University, Lahore and known as veli girl. She has worked in dramas like Sitam aired on HUM TV where she played a negative role, She was also seen in the drama Sirat-e-Mustaqeem on ARY Digital and Oey Moti on Express Entertainment. Her first drama was Maahi on LTN family[34] channel where she was a lead character in which she projected a positive character. She completed her first film called Dhai Chaal[35][36] in March 2022 which got released in December 2023.[37][38]

Personal life

Areej currently resides in two cities: Karachi and Islamabad. She has homes in both locations. Predominantly, Areej resides with her parents in Bani Gala, Islamabad. For work in Karachi, she has her own apartment. She is unmarried and not in any relationship. In a recent interview, Areej talked about her favourites things in life with The News.[54]
